Stargazers have the best chance to see the annual shower of Perseid Meteor on Tuesday evening.
The Perseid shower can contain 50 to 100 meteors per hour and was described by NASA as the “most popular meteor shower of the year”.
Here is everything you need to know how and when you have to catch the display in heaven over Great Britain.
What is Perseid meteor showers?
Meteor showers occur when the earth leads through a stream of meteoroids, which are debris that are left behind by a comet.
In the case of the Perseid shower, the comet 109p/Swift-Tuttle went through the solar system and has left a huge, invisible trace of space waste.
When the debris comes into contact with the earth’s atmosphere, burn the debris – – Create bright, fiery stripes that we can see.
The Perseid shower – – named after Perseus, the constellation from which the meteors come from, which are assumed that they come – – is also known for its fire balls.
The Perseid shower that can be seen on the Durdle Door in Dorset can contain 50 to 100 meteors per hour – Josh Dury/SWNS
These are characterized by larger light and color explosions that stay in the sky longer than the average meteor strips.
When will it be visible?
The Perseid shower has been active since July 17 and will continue until August 24th.
Your best chance to take a look is from midnight on Tuesday to the early morning hours of Wednesday.
Where is the best place to look at?
The visibility of this year’s Perseid meteor showers can be hindered by the sturgeon moon – – The name given to August full moon – – This will continue to illuminate the night sky on Tuesday.
The Stargazer in Northern England, East Anglia and the Midlands are expected to have a clear sky all night, with some cloudy areas in Northern Ireland as well as the south coast and northwest of England.
To see the best chance to see the phenomenon, avoid areas with many lights, such as:
If you are looking at the whole sky, you can have the best chance of recognizing metore. Make sure you give your eyes time to adapt to the darkness – – It can take about 20 minutes to adapt.
