The Virtual Telescope project organizes a free live stream of Perseid -meteorschauer Kredit: Gianluca Masi/Virtual Telescope Project on August 12, 2025
One of the most dazzling sky shows of the year is shortly before the climax, since the annual Perseid meteor shower lights up the night -and you can enjoy the event live online.
The Perseid meteor shower is expected to reach the top activity on Tuesday evening (August 12) in the early morning hours of Wednesday (August 13). The Virtual Telescope project will organize a free livestream on Tuesday at 5 p.m. EDT (2100 GMT) and offer Skywatchers real-time views on dozens of shooting stars per hour.
With a dark sky in central Italy, the virtual telescopic project with its robot telescopes can record wide field views of the meteor showers. The livestream event will also make a comment from the astrophysic Gianluca Masi. The stream will be available on the WEBTV page of the project, YouTube Channel and here on Space.com, with the kind approval of the virtual telescopic project.
The Persids are known to produce consistent meteors and occasional fire balls-“shooting stars”, which lure brighter as Venus in the sky, while the earth flows through the debris left by Comet Swift. The Perseids culminated when the earth runs through the densest and most dusty area of the comet path.
The Perseid meteor showers are active every year from mid-July to the end of August. With a clear sky and weak pollution, this year’s shower could deliver between 50 and 100 meteors per hour at the peak. However, a decreasing moon rises before midnight and may wash some of the weaker meteors with its light light.
Nevertheless, the brightest Persids should shine through, especially in the times of time when the constellation Personse – from which the meteors seem to shine, and therefore the name of the shower – increases high in the northeastern sky.

The best time to see the meteor showers is between 3 and 4 in the morning. Observers who observe personally are encouraged to find a dark spot and adapt time for their eyes. The meteor showers are visible to the mere eye, so that no telescopes or binoculars are required.
Regardless of whether you are outside under the stars or look at the LIVE -WEBCAST of the Virtual Telescope project, the Perseids remain one of the most remarkable meteor showers of the year.
