Europe’s Ariane 6 Heavy lift rocket was launched for the third time (August 12) tonight and sent progressive weather and a climate satellite into the orbit.
The mighty Ariane 6 rose today at 8:37 p.m. Edt of Europe’s Spaceport in Kourou, French -Guayana (9:37 a.m. local time in Kourou; 0037 GMT on August 13).
Ariane 6, the successor to the recently retired Ariane 5, is operated by the French company Arianespace on behalf of the European space agency. The rocket made a test flight in July 2024 again and flew again last March and successfully sent a French spy satellite to the Earth ornate of the first commercial mission of the rocket.

Flight number three appeared tonight. The payload this time was METOP-SGA1, an 8,900 pound weather satellite, which is operated by the International Group Eumetsat (European Organization to exploit meteorological satellites).
Ariane 6 will use METOP-SGA1 in a polar orbit of 800 kilometers over the earth 64 minutes after retreat this evening when everything goes according to plan. After a checkout period, the satellite will use its six instruments on board to collect a variety of weather and climate data. This will also do this in his operational life, which is expected to take 7.5 years.
“The satellite will take over the global observation of weather and climate from a polar orbit to a new level and high-resolution observations of temperatures, precipitation, clouds, wind, sea ice, aerosols, pollution, soil moisture, volcanic dust and a variety of other parameters,” wrote Arianespace representative in a mission description.
