Alexander Zverev was to serve for the game against Brandon Nakashima and listed the American 6-4, 5-4 when the game was forced to court due to the risk of lightning.

It was a similar situation for the American Jessica Pegula who fought back against Pole Magda Linette, who won the first set 7-6 (7/5) before the last year claimed the second 6-3.

The Toronto Champion Ben Shelton has never been at the court against Roberto Bautista Agut due to rain stamps that forced the officials one night early.

The second seed Alcaraz kept its exposure to a minimum of 32 Celsius conditions and took an efficient 95 minutes for his 50th game victory of the year to send Serb Hamad Medjedovic 6-4, 6-4.

“Medjedovic doesn’t run that much, so I tried to bring him around as much as possible,” said Alcaraz. “But it was difficult that the ball flew so much and its shots came so quickly. I tried to defend in a good way.”

Alcaraz was on a tear in 2025 when he followed Jannik Sünder in the ATP ranking and now has 13 victories on the level 1000 in a row.

He will play against Luca Nardi for the quarter -finals after the Italian defeated Jakob Mensik 6-2, 2-1, with the Czech retired after 42 minutes.

The five -time winner of the Grand Slam, Alcaraz, who is preparing for the approximate start of US Open, added: “I was really happy to win the victory in a very difficult game.

“But you have to stay positive and play your best tennis that day. I’m proud of it. It’s a goal of the season.”

Toronto’s finalist, Karen Khachanov, won Jenson Brooksby 6: 3, 6: 3.

Francisco Comeano and Reilly Opelka both felt the heat of their lunch game, which was interrupted by rain for 45 minutes when the Argentinian limps on a 6-7 (4/7), 6-4, 7-5 victory while saving three match points.

Comeano needed a medical break in the middle of the second set, but came out again to transform a fight of almost three hours against the American.

After a short consultation at his chairman, Opelka was back to court to weaken a return to the network of his opponent’s second game.

The 71st South American meets the ninth seed Andrey Rublev, who defeated the Australian Alexei Popyrin 6-7 (5/7), 7-6 (7/5), 7-5.

Opelka, known for his big serve, fired 27 aces, but also made almost 60 casual mistakes. Comeano broke four of his 13 chances.

He is the first Argentinian in the Cincy round of 16 since Diego Schwartzman in 2022.
